Wondering about Adopting our Older Child

When we saw Jia in the gold, frilly, dress we fell in love. Her age did not matter. Her age of 4.5 did not scare us. Now it does, a little.

We have been reading lots of books on older child adoption, and they are scary! They present every worst case scenario, such as lying, stealing, hoarding, defiance, animal abuse, playing in poop - UGH! This is not what we saw in the lovely girl in the golden frills.

In some ways it would be easy to say, no thanks, we will stick to our family of four. Yet, we do not walk away. We keep walking down the long road that will lead us to our 5 year old daughter, and as we walk we wonder.

We wonder will each day we wait make her transition harder?

We wonder if she will adapt easily, or will her grief be profound and ugly?

We wonder how she will feel about moving to a new family, new language, new country, new everything?

We wonder if we can handle the challenges that await us?

And as we wonder, we pray "I can do everything through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13.
